- Material Access: Both sides of the concrete slab must be exposed for concrete x-ray, since the process requires both a transmitter and a receiver. This is often not a possibility.
- Time for Development: X-Ray images require time for development, followed by interpretation by the technician. Those images, once developed, do provide a very clear picture, but GPR readings can be interpreted by a skilled technician on the spot.
- Time and Cost Savings: Because of the presence of radiation (as is the case with all forms of x-ray), required safety precautions include vacating the area and establishing a restricted area around the site. This makes concrete x-ray a more costly and time-consuming process than ground penetrating radar (GPR) when both methods are a possibility.
